Hi there —
I’ve greatly benefitted from the Book of Common Prayer over the last eight-ish years of Anglicanism. It’s chock-full of liturgy and prayers to scaffold a really robust life and routine of prayer — that is, if you can figure out how to use it.
It’s a codex in the traditional sense. A book. Something you have to thumb through and make sense of. In many ways it’s also a manual algorithm: liturgical calendar triggers, feast days, and holidays, each with a particular sequence and purpose. Every word is meaningful.
As a systems guy, I was really drawn to how the daily office worked. If you stuck to it, you’d pray through the whole Bible every two years.
Yet, like the initial catalyst for Beginner’s Apprenticeship, the Book of Common Prayer — the anchoring routine in several major church traditions — still feels entirely inaccessible to most people.
So I made it an app. Worth a shot!
Why this might be better than a fancy app
Pairs with a physical Bible. Apart from a few Psalms, all scripture references are just references.
Works like an app. Save it to your home screen with Share → Add to Home Screen.
Aesthetically simple. Not too interesting, but kinda interesting — and it does the job well.
Does the admin work. Get the benefit of the liturgical calendar without the friction.
Doesn’t need the internet. Once installed, you can run it on airplane mode if you want.
A decent dark mode. Early morning prayer needs dark mode. IYKYK.
Some fun stuff. Auto-flag feast days, add reminders to your calendar, browse the calendar, 16-bit icons.

I’ve already felt like it’s way easier to jump into prayer and scripture time, and I’m hopeful it becomes a routine for me again. And for you, too, if you need it.
