đź“– First batch of Good Night, God books ordered!

The factory samples look great.

It’s always a leap of faith hitting the big red “print” button for a big batch of books, especially when printing overseas. For example, the rounded edge of the book cut off slightly more than I expected, so for the production batch I bumped the blue music sticker slightly to the left. I also chose matte finish vs. glossy, and a slightly thinner (but still durable) page. Little stuff like that.

But hey! yes! It’s in production! And I should have a few books in hand sometime in the next couple weeks, with the main shipment arriving mid-November.

Here are some more looks at the book from the factory:

The “apprenticeship” side of things.

I hope you don’t mind a look at the process behind the scenes. It’s really amazing to see how many pieces have to come together to make this project a reality, especially with it being multi-media. Part of my heart behind sharing the logistics is to give aspiring authors/musicians/makers a look at how it can be done. How iterative things can be.

When I tell people about the music side of the project, I’m often asked if I am a musician. Man, in the room with David, Paul, Cole, Trisha, Lindsey, etc. I can sure feel like an amateur, they’re so talented and understand more music theory than I do. Yet somehow the way that I go about curating the art, text, and songs somehow engages with the creativity of others where I still feel like a musician even though I’m in this strange hybrid director role.

As I’m realizing (and owning) the artist side of me, there’s very much a systemic, business, project side of things that I think I’m naturally inclined to. I probably owe that to my Dad.

If this blend of art, business, faith, and work seem interesting to you, I actually started a podcast a few months ago called Working Theology, where we explore the theology of work, the work of theology, and the working out of theology in our daily lives. As well as a journal-type podcast for my new marketing agency, Snapmarket. (Which is the last I’ll say of it in this context.)

Finishing recording tomorrow.

Tomorrow we’re getting together for the final day of recording! I’m anticipating tracking vocals with Anna Cutchen and Rachel Bundy, as well as violin with Rachel. I’ve already come to really love (and rely on) the music for evening prayer and I hope it will serve other families well in that regard.

How can you help?

  • Stay tuned for promotional materials and opportunities to share the project (check out our Instagram).

  • Share this newsletter with a friend.

  • If you know of any Churches, programs, or youth ministries that may be interested in this project, would you be able to connect me?

  • If you know any podcasts or editorials that may be interested in a conversation about BA, would you be able to connect me?

In fact, you could even send them my calendar to schedule a meeting.

Prayer

  • For sufficient funding to finish this project.

  • For continued clarity of process, and supply chain in getting this project across the finish line.

  • For the right relationships to come about to get these resources where they need to be.

In some way or another, the Lord will provide.
