🙏 A Prototype for Evening Prayer

A project update:

The end of last year looked a lot more like rest than writing, but after my career transition I appreciated the time spent with family and dreaming up what the next chapter might look like. Since then, I’ve been splitting my work time between marketing/IT consulting, software product management, and this - The Beginner’s Apprenticeship project.

After The King is Coming (TKIC), I expected to dive right into Epiphany as the next storybook, but as I was preparing to write it, I realized my family would benefit from a book that we could use year-round (especially until the liturgical calendar series is complete).

So rather than Epiphany or Lent, the second book in the Beginner’s Apprenticeship project is based on the prayer of Examen, a prayer of daily reflection, and meant for year-round use.

The V1 Examen storybook prototype is doing pretty well in the bedtime book reviews at the Smith house, and I can already think of a hundred ways to improve it.

So here’s a sneak peek: I’m exploring what design motifs from TKIC I want to repeat in other books, like this sunset confession/absolution spread. I kinda like it.

There’s a lot more going on with this project that I look forward to sharing with you in the weeks/months ahead. Thanks again for your prayerful support and general enthusiasm!

With gratitude,
